How Social Media Competes for Your Attention

This is worthy of watching! Social media is creating massive problems and I see them every day in all walks of life. Tristan Harris, the maker of the documentary, The Social Dilemma describes how social media organisations compete for your attention. Distraction is a massive problem exacerbated by these social media networks who deliberately engage in the active addiction of people to their services. I use social media just like everyone else but in the last 6 months or so, I have reduced usage massively to a more tailored, controlled way of use. I still use social media for business / band purposes but for personal use, I use it very little.
I don't have social media on my phone anymore, I just use my PC for any social media and I don't use social media as the platform to share my photos and video anymore and use this site as the platform. If I want to share a story, a picture or a video, I share it from here first and then to social media.
I do not actively use Twitter anymore except for use with specific needs like my band, The Cilikis or BMC Guitar Effects. If I do use twitter, I have found a great browser extension for Firefox (not sure if it is available for others) called BETTER TWITTER which hides various parts of the twitter feed that can be distracting like the number of likes, retweets, number of replies etc.. Very handy plugin indeed and if you use twitter on a browser (not the app), i highly recommend you use it!
Watch this video and you be the judge.
